Congratulations to Amy and Francesca who have been making a real effort to walk, bike or scooter to school and leave the car at home. Amy's name got pulled out twice and she has a lovely hat and flag for her bike and Francesca, who was very happy with a bell for her bike!

Welcome to Room 1

Welcome to Room 1 Indeekah, Charlotte and Hamdi.  We love having you in Room 1 and know you will love being at school.

Swimming

We love going swimming.  It has been so hot this week.  Well done Room 1 you are all great swimmers.  What awesome little fish!

Symmetry and Patterns

We have been learning about patterns and symmetry.  We used the pegboards, beads, shapes and painted symmetrical butterflies.

Earthquake!

It was sad to hear about the big earthquake in Kaikoura and see all the damage.  We were all a bit shaken.  It was a good time to have an earthquake drill practice.

Save the Kiwi Bake Day

We loved being able to spend our money on delicious cakes and help save Kiwi! Thank you Rimu Hub!

FIrewise

The firefighters came to school to check that we are "FIrewise".

- Matches and lighters are tools not toys. We give them to an adult

- We should have smoke alarms in our house

- Make a special meeting place in case of an emergency or fire - the letterbox is a good meeting place

- Get down , get low , get out FAST!

- Dial 111 if there is an emergency

Buddy Hub Time

On Friday we met with our Buddies from Rimu Hub. We shared some stories and poems with them and they read a story to us too.  We invited our buddies to eat their lunch with us. It is nice to have some new big buddies in the playground.

Corduroy the Bear

This is one of Mrs Rose's favourite Bear stories.  She has her own Corduroy the Bear.  Adelaide looked after Corduroy for the day today.

Bear Day

Today we brought our teddy bears or favourite soft toy to school.
We read some bear stories and we wrote our own stories too.  We took photos of our friends with their teddies.  We will share these with you soon.

Ethan, Lottie and Indeekah came to visit us at school yesterday. We look forward to them joining Room 1 in the next couple of weeks. 

Phonics Phones

Today we tried out our Phonics Phones. They made our voices echo and sound loud. We use them when we are reading to ourselves. Phoebe thought she could hear the sea!

Wow! A Crane at School!

A crane came to school this week to move the new container that is on the field into place.
It is going to store supplies for an emergency and all our spare furniture.  It was so exciting to watch the crane.  We wrote some stories.

Our Very Own Alphabet Books

On Friday we were so clever.  We took Giant View photos and made our own alphabet books.
We used Draw and Tell to make them into little books.

Kelly Sports

Today the Kelly Sports Coaches came and showed us some of the activities they do at after school Kelly Sports sessions. It was heaps of fun!

Sausage Sizzle Day

A mufti day and sausage sizzle in our first week.  We loved the ice blocks!

Pohutukawa Hub Awards
